These counts are for where smoking status is āCurrent Smokerā and the denominator is for the distinct patients by year. Note that for some patients they are listed as both āCurrent Smokerā and āEx Smokerā or any other combination of statuses. These means that the person could be counted twice but in separate categories.
All counts are for distinct patients based on their patient_id so even if there are multiple smoking statuses (that are the same) or referrals/admissions in a year, the count will only be once.
As smoking is legally only for those age 16 and older, when comparing with ONS prevalence, the Trust data filters for patients over 16 in the year the referral was open/the patient was on the ward.
The previous time this analysis was conducted the Trustās prevalence was % but this has been corrected with the improved methodology and is now 25%. This hasnāt changed for the last 3 years.
